About Aneeta

I am a cisgender woman and POC. I love working with clients who are seeking to connect to a deeper sense of purpose

An avid traveler and polyglot, I speak four additional languages - French, Hindi, Urdu and Gujrati - and continue to cultivate a curious and open-mind through study and meeting people from all walks of life. I learn a lot from my clients and I would love to meet you.

I was born in South Asia and moved to Canada in my youth. As a child of immigrants, I hold lived experience of the complexities of living across and between cultures and borders.

A music and art lover, I also serve as a board member with several local non-profits focused around bringing world music and dance to audiences in Vancouver. I love the joy that sharing music, dance and the arts brings to our communities.

Founder, Registered Clinical Counsellor

Counselling Approach

My clients say that they feel safe and calm in my presence, open to new possibilities.

They would also mention my sense of humour. Yes, counselling is a serious endeavor and our work is important. Yet, even in the midst of difficulty, I believe there is a place for lightness and ease, and for sharing a good belly laugh.

I love engaging in deeper process work with clients, while teaching practical tools that help people manage their day-to-day realities more effectively. I use proven and well supported approaches based in research and practice.

The trust we develop in our counselling relationship can set the stage for the deeper work of therapy, which if you chose, can be deeply healing or even transformational.

Experience

I have been a  Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) since 2015.

In addition to private practice, I have worked as a clinical counsellor and workshop facilitator in Higher Education clinical counselling settings and in Community Mental Health.

I have a 3-year Master's degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia (2012-2015).

I am a member in good standing of the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, and the BC Post-Secondary Counsellors Association.

Training

I have sought extended training in the following models:

-  Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) based on the work of Diana Fosha, PhD

- Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy, based on the work of Virginia Satir

- Neurobiologically-Informed Trauma Treatment, Complex Trauma Certification with Janina Fisher, PhD

- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Trained (EMDR)

I also draw from practical new research in the field of neuropsychology, and highly effective tools and principles of  Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (MB-CBT).

Grounding, mindfulness, breathwork and somatic interventions are a part of my practice.  I have found that these are some of the most effective tools for long-term change and learning to support yourself through difficult times. You need not have experience in these areas; we will incorporate these tools in a way that feels right for you.
